Africa Campaign Steering Committee - Working group: Research
Background :
Very little is known about HIV/AIDS in populations with pre-existing disabilities. Much of what is known is based on presumptions, reports and anecdotal experience.
Well documented research findings can be a useful tool for DPOs and HIV organizations to advocate for inclusive strategies and policies. In order for policy makers to make informed decisions about their priorities for persons with disabilities in relation to HIV & AIDS, they need to have comprehensive data on the impact of the pandemic on disabled populations.
There is an urgent need for a solid evidence base with which to influence policy and change practice.
