Africa Campaign Steering Committee - Working group: Communications
Background:
One of the common reasons quoted by governments and AIDS organisations for not including persons with disabilities is that they've never thought about it. So it is our job together with the disability and HIV community to inform them and to make them conscious about the ways in which to ensure disability issues and persons with disabilities could be included into AIDS response.
The key messages that will guide campaign communications both verbally and written are as follows:
- Persons with disabilities in Africa are equally vulnerable to the impact of HIV/ AIDS as their non-disabled peers.
- Persons with disabilities in Africa have equal rights to access to HIV & AIDS information and services.
- Persons with disabilities, when included, can be an effective part of a coordinated response to HIV & AIDS in Africa.
The Campaign currently have a communications policy to guide its verbal and written communications, however there is a great need to supplement this policy with relevant, creative and well presented communications material that highlights the key messages to be used in relevant situations.
